FLY PATTERN: Schmidt's Modified |
Rainbow Attractor |
Materials: |
Body: Mirage |
Rib: Silver tinsel |
Wing: Deer Tail hair (white, pink, blue) |
Gills: Red yarn |
Hook: Daiichi 2340 6X long size 10 |
Thread: 8/0 grey |
Step 1: |
Begin this
pattern with your thread at the back of the hook. Tie in your Silver tinsel and then
Mirage. Put a bead of glue up the hook
shank and then wrap the Mirage leaving the last 1/8" of the hook shank
for the head. The trick to this step
is wrap the Mirage the opposite direction of everything else. |

Step 2: |
Place a
small amount of glue on the silver tinsel and then wrap it forward in evenly
spaced wraps and tie off with an additional half hitch. |

Step 3: |
Clip a small
amount of white deer tail hair. Clear
it of the short hairs and chaff and then place in a hair stacker. Tie in the hair approximately the length of
the hook shank and angle trim after tying off. |

Step 4: |
Clip
a small amount of pink deer tail hair.
Do not use the stacker for this step as the uneven tips are
essential. Tie in this bunch of hair
slightly longer than the underlying hair.
Repeat this step with a liberal clump of blue hair. |

Step 5: |
At this
point tie in a small bit of red yarn on each side of the hook and trim to be
about 1/8". Give this fly a
significant size tapered thread head, whip finish, and complete with head
cement. |
