This is the most consistent fly I know for taking large smallmouth bass. Swim this slowly along the stream bottom in the riffles, runs and deep pools with a very slow line hand stripping action at a down and across stream angle. We tie this with lead eyes to take it down quickly and to enhance its natural diving action during the retrieve. I have several friends who seldom use any other fly than this when they are big fish hunting.

- 2 or 3X long streamer hook - I am somewhat old school, so I like Mustad 9672 in 8 or 10.
- Tie in lead eyes, with a dot of superglue or head cement
- Wrap thread to butt and tie in zonker strip
- Make a dubbing loop in the thread and tightly twist in rabbit fur. It should look like some sort of Angora chenille
- Wrap toward the eye and tie off - it will look like a soft puff ball
- Shape the body and head with scissors

You will not need any strike indicators, because the browns will hit this hard and not let go like they do other streamers. You can fish it cross current, swing nymph it, or drop it into a deep pool.
