| They say a picture is better than a 1000 words so attached is a picture of the trip to the Big Manistee near Wellston MI. Mike and I caught a bunch of Coho Salmon on our 2nd day. Leap and run and run and run for about 5 minutes and then it was either off or hung up or in the net. Lots of fun! 1st and 3rd day we were being man-handled by the fresh Kings. Lots on but none near enough to the boat for pictures... Normal activity was complete chaos! Something like your Chinese fire drill routine where all hell breaks loose and a fish takes off on a run downstream, then upstream, then towards the boat and then... its gone! A few were actually hooked in the mouth but many, many were hooked elsewhere. Fish 99 Fisherman zero! Best thing we did was on day 3 we went back to the Coho hole where Mike and I both were immediately into coho's. Both broke one off after foul hooking a fish. With that Jay, another guide from Schmidts asked if his client's son could try catching a coho. We gave the hole to them and went up river and did some dry fly fishing for browns. As we passed them on our return Jay said the boy had caught a 16 # brown and yes, the boy was still smiling! We all smiled with that and felt warm and cozy on doing our fisherman's good deed! More to come next week as we head back to the Salmon River in NYS. |
